The Advantages of Online-Tutoring

Education today is becoming more and more complex at a time when teaching resources are being stretched beyond their capacity.  The curriculum that grade school children are studying far extends what most of us covered at the same age.  The system is pushing children harder to learn more, whilst at the same time increasing class sizes and reducing the amount of finance available for books.  This is where online-tutoring becomes like a separate school for your child.

Most kids from first grade up (and before in some cases), are familiar with computers and know how to use them to access their games, email and the Internet.  It is the Internet which can help your child's education by providing them with extra assistance by way of online-tutoring in the subject they are having problems with.  This online-tutoring can take the shape of formal tutorial classes which offer additional teaching on the subject areas where there are problems occurring; it can be group related where groups get together in a chatroom environment to discuss the subject area, or it can be on an individual one-to-one online-tutoring basis.

There are sites which offer online-tutoring not in the traditional form of having a person explain the subject areas, but instead have a wide variety of articles which explain the different principles in easy to understand terminology.  There are sites which offer a help email address for those who have a question to ask that isn't answered in the online-tutoring system.  Some of the online-tutoring resources are free to anyone who visits the web site.  Others charge a fee and your child is given access to areas and features on the web site that non-paying visitors aren't allowed to see.

Kids love computers and so having an Internet based classroom puts them in an environment they like - unlike school which most kids have a dislike for.  Being somewhere they enjoy being is a good step towards their better understanding of the topics taught at school, and improving their grades so even if you choose a fee-based online-tutoring site, you should get a good return on your investment.

Internet security is a big issue for parents these days.  Some sites aren't all they appear and it's hard to find out which are the best ones.  For online-tutoring site recommendations ask at your child's school if there are any they have heard of and/or recommend.  If the school isn't able to advise, ask around other parents, or do some research of your own online - check out the reviews from the parents as well as the kids (both sides may not always agree!).  Once you find a selection of possible online tutoring sites for your child, test drive them for a week to see which one your child settles into best, and then sign them up for whatever subjects they need help with.  Hopefully the addition of the virtual classroom offered by the online-tutoring will complement the traditional school education and help your child gain a much better education.
